An inventory of International Health Regulations (IHR) related training activities and materials
An inventory of existing International Health Regulations (IHR) related training activities and materials has been compiled by the National Centre of Epidemiology, Public Health Institute Carlos III. The institute is a partner in SHARP Joint Action work package 8 which focuses on Strengthening International Health Regulations (IHR) implementation for serious cross-border health threats through cross-sectoral, basic and advanced training, local exercises and exchange of working practices.
Insufficient human resources is a major obstacle in IHR implementation. At the outset of SHARP Joint Action the human resources capacity in the WHO Euro region had decreased in the recent preceding years. Sophisticated IHR plans, regulations and standard operating procedures (SOPs) cannot be implemented, unless qualified and trained staff are available to fulfil this task. Strengthening human resource capacity is essential to countries in meeting the EU Serious cross-border threat to health regulation (EU) 2022/2371.
A valuable reference for intermediate and national level preparedness planners and front-line services
The groundwork in creating the inventory provides a valuable reference for those tasked with national-tailored capacity building activities.
